On 28 June, the time had finally come: the new HEINZ-GLAS warehouse in Teuschnitz was officially opened. The opening ceremony, which was attended by the HEINZ-GLAS managing directors and the owner family, as well as employees, local residents, the construction companies involved and the Mayor of Teuschnitz, Frank Jakob, marks an important milestone for the company's most important shipping and logistics location.
The development plan for the new warehouse had already been drawn up in 2019 and 2020. After the demolition of the existing hall at the beginning of 2022, the planning of the new building began in May of the same year. Structural work started in June 2023. The roof and facade were completed in February 2024, before the hall was finally put into operation in June 2024.
The new warehouse covers an area of 1,950 square metres and has a volume of 15,500 cubic metres. It offers space for at least 3,333 pallet spaces on three levels. The construction of the hall required extensive preparatory work, including the filling of 1,570 cubic metres, concrete work of 790 cubic metres, prefabricated wall elements of 145 cubic metres, 45 tonnes of reinforced concrete and a steel construction of 192 tonnes. A special feature of the new hall is the sustainable water management: all roof water is allowed to seep away underground, with no discharge into the sewer system. This relieves the sewer system, especially during heavy rainfall events. In addition, a greening with trees and a future hedge was carried out along Reichenbacher Straße.
At the Teuschnitz site, 23 employees currently work in the area of logistics and will benefit from the improved working conditions and increased storage capacity. The construction work was carried out by ten companies from the local area. The total cost of the new building is approximately 2.5 million euros.
The opening ceremony provided an excellent opportunity to celebrate the accident-free and successful completion of the construction work with all those involved, with bratwurst, steaks and cool drinks. HEINZ-GLAS would like to thank, above all, the construction companies involved, the internal project management team and the town of Teuschnitz and local residents for the good and smooth cooperation during the construction phase.
‘On behalf of the town of Teuschnitz, I am very pleased that the completion of the logistics hall has created additional jobs in Teuschnitz. I would also like to express my special thanks to the HEINZ-GLAS management for addressing the concerns of the neighbourhood with regard to noise protection by means of additional planting measures. I look forward to a good relationship,’ says Frank Jakob, 1st Mayor of Teuschnitz.
