Investment in high-tech furnace

HEINZ-GLAS has decided to build a very special electric glass furnace.

HEINZ-GLAS has decided to build a very special electric glass furnace. In doing so, the flacon glass manufacturer, which is headquartered in Kleintettau/Germany, is responding to the changing demands of the world market in terms of production technology. The special furnace will be built the beginning of 2020 and can produce very flexible different types of glass in terms of quantities – also the so-called and increasingly demanded PCR (Post Consumer Recycling) glass! In using an electric furnace, the company is benefitting from what’s considered the most environmentally friendly and promising glass melting technology out there: it’s operated with CO2-free electricity.

In taking this step, HEINZ-GLAS is continuing along the path of meeting the highest requirements for low-emission glass production. As early as 2016, the last natural gas-fired furnace at the Kleintettau site was replaced by a fully electric furnace, thus making fossil fuel reliance a thing of the past.

The new special furnace is replacing an older electric furnace at the Kleintettau site. Thus, no additional production capacity will be created as initially intended. But instead, investments are being made in preserving around 100 direct jobs, plus approximately 100 further indirect jobs which are pre- or post-production related. This is being done in consideration of the ongoing energy transition and the resulting uncertainty concerning power supply.
